As temperatures continue to drop and winter sweeps over Australia, we’re all dreaming of a sunny getaway! Luckily for us in Australia, a great beach with lots of sunshine is never far away. Below, we’ve curated a list of some sunny destinations with plenty of activities for the kids and lots of swimming too!
Whitehaven Beach
Whitehaven Beach is located in the Whitsundays, which is a beautiful group of islands scattered along the Great Barrier Reef. The beach itself stretches almost 7km in length with plenty of area to swim, snorkel, tan, or play in the sand! There are also a few places to check out with the kids, such as the Beacon Museum, a must-see attraction, with four floors of history, exhibitions, games and fun for the whole family. Another great option for the kids is Jungle Jacks at the Whitehaven Sports and Recreation Centre, which is the ultimate soft play centre for kids.
Noosa
This destination needs no introduction! Noosa is one of Australia’s beautiful seaside holiday destinations and is home to some of the country’s most spectacular scenery, where you’re never far from a beach or national park. Byron Bay
Byron Bay is a very popular holiday destination, especially for families during the school holidays. Darwin
With temperatures between 21°C to 32°C even during the colder months, Darwin is the perfect winter getaway! Though this destination may be a little further away than the other holiday ideas on this list, Darwin makes up for the travel with its practically guaranteed sunshine! There are plenty of activities for the whole family too, including wildlife parks, markets, outdoor adventures, wave pools and wildlife encounters! Bondi
Last but certainly not least is our very own Sydney beach, Bondi! Weather during the winter can be a little less predictable than in summer but if you manage to catch the sun on a good day then you can enjoy temperatures of up to 23°C. What a perfect winter’s day at the beach! If swimming is not your thing, then there’s also the Bondi Playground.
